The Aircraft-Based Side of Stockton Infrared
AIT Scan is the aerial division of Stockton Infrared Thermographic Services, headquartered in Randleman, North Carolina. Stockton Infrared was founded in 1989 by Greg Stockton, a Certified Infrared Thermographer. The aerial division was launched in 1994 to bring thermal inspection to the scale of campuses, military installations, cities, and the country’s largest facility portfolios.
What ground-based thermography can do for a single building, AIT Scan does for an entire portfolio in a single mission. Our aircraft carry thermal sensors engineered specifically for ground-surface temperature differentials at altitude — not consumer hardware, not adapted equipment. The deliverables are built to support engineering specifications, capital plans, and the workflows our clients already run.
What We Inspect
Aircraft-based infrared captures heat signatures across thousands of acres in a single survey window. The pattern of what’s warmer or cooler than the surrounding ground tells our clients where the system is operating as designed — and where it isn’t.
That pattern shows up in commercial flat roofs (subsurface moisture), underground steam and hot water distribution (leaks and saturated insulation), solar arrays (module-level defects), municipal waterways (illicit discharges and exfiltration), landfills (subsurface combustion and methane), and wildlife landscapes (population counts). One sensor platform, one analyst workflow, applied to whichever inspection problem the client brings.

Gregory R. Stockton
President & Founder
Gregory R. Stockton has an extensive background in the construction industry, specializing in infrastructure, industrial and commercial maintenance, and energy-related technologies. He has been a certified, practicing infrared thermographer since 1989 and has published more than thirty technical papers and written numerous articles about IR applications. Greg is an active member of Program Committee for ThermoSense, part of the international society for optics and photonics (SPIE). Greg is frequently Chairman of the Buildings & Infrastructures Session at the Defense & Security Symposium. He is also Chairman of Thermal Imaging Conference, United Infrared’s User’s Conference.
Eric Stockton
Vice President
Eric Stockton is a Level III Infraspection Institute Certified Thermographer with over 20 years of thermal imaging job experience. Eric graduated from the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill and has a degree in Zoology with an emphasis on Environmental Chemistry and Biochemistry. After college he served as an environmental consultant to Carolina Power and Light’s Shearon Harris Nuclear Power Plant. Eric joined the company in 1996 and has been an integral part of its growth and success.
Alejandro Tache
AITscan Division Manager
Alejandro Tache is the Division Manager for AITscan™ – SITS’s Aerial Division. Mr. Tache has extensive experience as a combat pilot, test pilot and flight instructor, and earned a degree in Aeronautics Science from Colombian Air Force Academy. AITscan was started in 1994, and he took over in 2005. He has been instrumental in growing the division due to superior performance as a pilot, thermographer, and software analyst.

Valerie Hannigan
Director of Marketing
Valerie Hannigan has over 25 years’ experience in sales and marketing of thermal infrared inspections. Val is a loyal and valued member of the Stockton Infrared team as she worked her way up from sales assistant to Director of Marketing over the past 13 years.
Tom Mayfield
Director of Western US Sales
Mr. Mayfield received a Degree with honors in Applied Science from Brazosport College in 1973 and a Degree in Geology from Trinity University in 1978. He holds a Level II NDT Certification in Visual, Magnetic Particle, Dye Penetrant, Ultrasonic and Infrared Thermography inspection methods, in addition to being a Certified Welding Inspector (CWI). He co-owns US Patent #5,670,469 – Methods and compositions for cleaning and decontamination.
Tom Mayfield has been with Stockton Infrared for over 21 years and manages sales efforts in the Western part of the US.
Mike Clark
Director of Eastern US Sales
Mike Clark has 35 years’ experience in construction and industrial facility maintenance. He understands the importance of solid predictive and preventative maintenance and operations. Mike has many years’ experience in thermal imaging of facilities to find moisture, heat loss, and inspecting and appraising CMU walls, and he has been involved with many aspects of infrared thermography since 1989.
Mike Clark has been with Stockton Infrared for over 25 years and manages sales efforts in the Eastern part of the US.
Roger Nunez
Director of Business Development
Roger Nunez earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Customs Administration and Foreign Trade at the National School of Administration and Public Finances Caracas, Venezuela. He worked for the Venezuelan Internal Revenue and Customs Service from 2000–2016.
After moving to the US in 2017, he began working for Stockton Infrared as Operations Manager and currently is the Business Development Manager.
Dorian Stockton
Director of Sales
Richard “Dorian” Stockton graduated with honors with a double degree in Geography and History in 2012 from UNC-Greensboro. Dorian first began working for Stockton Infrared as an analyst in the aerial division in 2010. Mr. Stockton traveled internationally between 2012 and 2017 in Asia and Latin America. He is currently the Director of Sales.
Alexander Stockton
Director of Civil Engineering
Alexander Stockton has been working at Stockton Infrared for 20 years, picking up skills such as analyzing infrared images, working on our many versions of our websites, and figuring out how to make a better product. After college, Alexander began working for Stockton Infrared as an analyst in the aerial division in 2010. Over the years he has done many jobs. He is currently the Director of Civil Engineering.

Robert Madding, Ph. D.
Technical Director
Dr. Robert Madding is a Technical Director for all the Stockton Infrared Divisions, providing training and support. Bob is considered a pioneer within the infrared industry. He started the first infrared thermography seminar at the University of Wisconsin. He founded the Thermosense Conference and was the Director of Training for FLIR Systems, Inc., for many years. He founded FLIR’s InfraMation Conference in the year 2000.
Bob has many years’ experience being an in-field, practicing infrared thermographer in numerous applications and training and has published numerous technical papers and contributed many technical chapters in textbooks on infrared thermography. Bob has also been Chairman of the Thermosense Session of SPIE’s Symposium and Chairman of various sessions at the Defense and Security Symposium.
Ben T. Hixson, RCI, CSI
Technical Director
Mr. Hixson is a Technical Director for Stockton Infrared, specializing in roofing and building science applications. Mr. Hixson earned a B.A. in Chemistry from Vanderbilt University in 1973 and is uniquely able to correlate product chemistry to predictable field performance.
A formerly active member of the International Institute of Building Enclosure Consultants (IIBEC), he has earned all four of the Construction Specification Institute (CSI) professional designations recognizing many years of construction experience and successful passage of technical proficiency exams. He is an Affiliate of the International Sustainable Roofing and Waterproofing Alliance, former member of ASTM Chapter 60 on Sustainability, and current Director for the Southeast Chapter of the Building Commissioning Association (SERBCA).
Capt. Dean O. Trytten (Ret.)
Technical Director
Dean Trytten is a Technical Director for Stockton Infrared, specializing in steam, heating systems and electromechanical applications in general. Dean provides training and technical support for all the divisions.
Dean Trytten received his Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from North Carolina State University. He then earned his Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the Naval Post Graduate School in Monterey, CA. Captain Trytten was also awarded the prestigious “Top Snipe” award at SWOS Department Head School.
During a period of rapidly changing force structures and declining resources, Captain Trytten served as ship superintendent at Philadelphia Naval Shipyard for the SLEP of U.S.S. Forrestal [CV 59], repair officer at SIMA San Diego, and force maintenance officer. After retiring from the US Navy, he works on special projects.
